Observation Narrative
Swamp forest in linear slough at back edge of Cub Run floodplain. Soils are poorly drained and shallowly inundated during the winter and spring. Composition is typical for floodplains with heavy, clay-rich soils derived from Triassic Basin siltstone and diabase. A very open understory allows good illumination for a locally dense, graminoid-rich herb layer. The fragmented nature of this stand makes it highly susceptible to invasion by exotic weeds, several of which have become established.
